WHAT I WANT FOR MY 30TH BIRTHDAY

In honor of my birthday (surprise- it's today!), I'd thought I'd share a few items I currently have my eye on. Each year I go through the same motions and emotions on how bittersweet birthdays always feel to me, yada yada. I will spare you with the sob story this year, lol. Now that I've entered a new decade (which TBH still makes me want to run for the hills), I'm trying my best to embrace a new milestone and season of life. Instead of looking back and wishing for time to slow down, I'm looking forward to new growth and opportunities. It's also about time for me to enter into my bad b*tch era, ya'll. It's also time for a little birthday treat to me, from me. Right now these are the top things on my wish list-- which one screams fine and forever twenty-nine? LMK!

A LITTLE HAIRCARE HAUL

Lately my hair has been a bit of a hot mess express in need of a little TLC. Naturally it only made sense to try out some new products and a fresh routine to add some life and zhuzh things up a bit! My hair has always been very thick, a little wavy + curly and prone to some dryness. I'm not a consistent masker so to add some extra moisture in, I scooped up this cute Amika Mask set. It comes with three of their bestselling masks: a full-size of the Dream Routine Overnight Hydration Treatment and two deluxe sizes in the Soulfood Nourishing Mask and The Kure Intense Bond Repair Mask. I can't wait to try them all. I've always been happy with how Amika products work and these all have great ratings-- they also smell amazing!

Also in the smoothing realm are these goodies from IGK: the Good Behavior 4-in-1 Prep Spray, Good Behavior Smoothing Spray and Crybaby Anti-Frizz Serum. There is lots of smoothing, de-frizzing and softening involved which hopefully transfers to my hair!

Lastly from Ouai, my sister bought me a little gift set for Christmas that came with their Scalp & Body Scrub, the Detox Shampoo + Hair Oil. I think between these, Amika + IGK, I've pretty much got all of my bases covered. I'll keep you posted on how everything works!

APPLE AIRPODS MAX UNBOXING

I think I'm one of the cools kids now, ya'll. My boyfriend gifted me a pair of the Apple AirPods Max for Christmas which has me feeling like all the TikTok it girlies. At my age, I don't really buy into the latest greatest when it comes to technology anymore. When I was younger, having the newest phone or iPod was a must, probably because I grew up while the first iPod and iPhones were coming out. Technology was new, fresh and exciting. Everything was so radically different and cool. It also seemed to change and adapt very quickly.

Now, I feel like the standard (*for me*) has been set when it comes to things like the iPhone or Apple Watch. There are always new features and tweaks, but at the core they're very much the "same" as the original if that makes sense? Maybe that's just a sign that I'm getting old, lol. When you're young, I think those things are a lot more important. Now I just want something that works until it doesn't. It takes a lot for something techie to really grab MY attention but I have to give Apple credit where credit is due- they got me with these maxes, ya'll.

When I first started seeing them, I just thought they were cool. Over the ear headphones aren't a new, revolutionary concept by themselves, but in true Apple fashion- I think they did that in their own way. Whether you like Apple products or not, I think it goes without saying that their overall design and aesthetic is very unique and specific to them. Everything is clean and sleek. The maxes are modernized but on the contrary, a bit retro too.

While I thought they were cool, I've been bonded to the OG Apple earbuds for years now (anyone else have all the original pairs from every iPhone or iPod you've ever owned? lol...) and never felt the need to replace them. I mentioned in passing once or twice to my bf that I thought the maxes were cool and would be a neat splurge to have, however I didn't think much of it. Fast forward a few months later to Christmas + he surprised me with the silver/white pair which was so sweet + thoughtful. I love them! PS- because they're a lighter color, I also just ordered these silicone covers to help protect them.

I thought I'd share a little unboxing with you + my first initial thoughts. I'm still new to them but I think I can confirm that the maxes are in fact very much cool. The devil is always in the details for me which is why I've always been an Apple girl. I love how their products work but the little innovative details they add really make the difference. A few things I like on the headphones specifically- the case design is simple + sleek with a magnetic closure- very cool. I also didn't know that the sound moves + adjusts with your head- also very cool. Obviously the look, vibe + packaging- very very cool. Always a fan of the little things- the bells and whistles.

I also think they're very comfortable too. My only real experience with over the ear headphones were those headsets we had to wear in computer class at school, lol. They use to squeeze your head but these thankfully do not, haha. The sound is also good, the noise-cancellation on the other hand is still new to me. I'm trying to get use to it but as of now, I like them better with it turned off.

As with all Apple products, connecting them to all my other devices is easy peasy. As far as the actual unboxing, 10/10 for the packaging. Sleek, sturdy + all that is Apple. In the box comes the AirPods, case, a charging cable + instructions. This isn't new but I will still gripe on Apple for taking the charging bricks out of everything, lol. While I'm sure we all have them, that was a petty decision on their part that is goofy IMO.

My overall first impression-- I'm too cool for school now + if you've been thinking about buying a pair for yourself, you can be too. 😉🤗🎧

What color would you pick?

TOP 5 MOST POPULAR BLOG POSTS | 1.15.24

Okieeee, it's time for the first "Top 5 Most Popular Blog Posts" of the month in 2024. If you didn't know, every month I post a little round-up highlighting the top five most visited posts here on TheKristenDiary.com. It's a little unconventional in that I always post these halfway through the month as opposed to at the end, however it lets me have an overview from the last 30 days with both the previous + current month. I love seeing what you all are reading the most + gaining insight on what to keep posting. I love that you all enjoy these too + I can't wait to see how they change throughout the year. Here's what made the cut this month:

1. OURA RING UNBOXING - What better way to kick off the New Year than with an Oura Ring? At this point, it should be no secret that I'm obsessed with mine + highly recommend everyone to also get one. It's a wearable device (similar to an Apple Watch) that tracks data on your health. The ring's primary focus is on sleep, however it will also give insights on activity, readiness levels + the female cycle. If you're curious about purchasing an Oura Ring, my unboxing post is a great reference with all the 411.

2. SHE READS TRUTH BIBLE | UNBOXING - Reading the Bible has become a non-negotiable part of my daily routine after purchasing the She Reads Truth Bible. It's always been a goal of mine to read the entirety of the Bible from start to finish which is why I purchased this version. It's a CSV (Christian Standard Version) that makes the readability a little easier to understand in today's world + has a beautiful design. For more info + photos, be sure to read the full unboxing here

3. SUNDAY FOREVER FRAGRANCE UNBOXING - The unboxings are very popular this month, huh? With Spring just a few short months away, you definitely don't want to miss this one. I unboxed + tried out two of Sunday Forever's bestselling fragrances in this post, both smell amazing and are great spring and summer scents.

4. THE BEST AFTER CHRISTMAS SALES - Who doesn't' love a good after Christmas sale? Although I always spend way too much before Christmas, who am I to miss out on a good sale? It's always the perfect opp to buy what you really wanted for Christmas, haha. In all seriousness, you can snag some great buys at the end of the year + even now in January. I look at it as a great time to re-vamp my style for the New Year and bankroll any goals or hobbies.

5. MY AMAZON STOREFRONT - If you love Amazon, this is the post for you. I've got all of my favorite purchases and go-to essentials linked in my storefront. There's a pretty broad mix of snacks, fashion, beauty, fitness/vitamins/wellness, books + more.

FITNESS WISH LIST

A few of my fitness goals for this year are to increase strength training and create a designated mini gym area at home. I think I'm at the point where I've done enough weightlifting at the gym to be able to guide more by myself at home, I just need some fun new equipment. Currently I've been staying in the 12-20lb dumbbell range at the gym so I'd like to add a few more sizes of these dumbbells to my collection. My go-to for regular sets has been 12s + 15s and then I'll use 20s for heavier lifting or things like sumo/goblet squats. I've been keeping in this range so I can maintain proper form + not kill my body (lol) but I've definitely come along way from when I first started. For months I would only ever use the 8lbs (maybe the 10s every once in awhile) and now I never grab for them.

The dumbbells are really the only *essential* I need, however I want to make a little gym area with some other accessories. *Obviously* these connectable foam tiles are a must + I also think these workout decks are handy. We use them all the time at OTF + I love how many different weight exercises you can use them with. I added a few other random items to the list like a new YETI (not an at home essential, lol) + some new shoes. I've done a little bit of research and this Nike pair gets a great rating for both lifting + cardio.

ANOTHER HEALTHY-ISH GROCERY HAUL | 1.5.24

Welcome back to my first healthy-ish grocery haul of 2024. Per my 2024 resolutions, I'm slowly easing my way into healthier eating this month. I've been fighting a nasty cold for the last few weeks which has been AWFUL, you guys. I've had the worst congestion and coughing, it's been rough. Since being sick, my motivation to do pretty much anything has been put on the back burner, healthy eating included. Whenever I do get sick, I'm always reminded what a blessing it is to be healthy and not sick! My main priorities these days have been resting, getting through the days and to stop coughing, lol. I think we're almost back to normal so I'm crossing my fingers next week I'll get back into the gym + start eating a little cleaner at home. In the meantime, I've been mentally going over what I want to start making + have made a few mini grocery runs.

Today's haul is a small one with just a few essentials + a few of my favorite healthier snack options. I also found a few of these items on BOGO this week at Publix which was nice BUT I also had to go on a scavenger hunt for eggs this week which was crazy. Who knew pasture raised eggs were on everyone's grocery list for the new year?? Lol, I can't blame them!

Alright, as far as my food goals go, the plan is to be more intentional with what I'm eating, up my protein intake, add in more fruits/veggies + limit snacks and "junk" food. Over the holidays I gave myself a lot of leeway to eat whatever I wanted. I'm always a "everything in moderation" gal but right now I could use a little sugar detox.

DAIRY/NON-DAIRY
+
Truly Grass-fed Natural Aged Sharp Cheddar Cheese

PROTEIN
+ Greenfield Diced Ham
Vital Farms Pasture Raised Eggs
Rotisserie Chicken

GRAINS/BREAD
The Better Bagel Classic Bagels
Veggies Made Great Banana Chocolate Chip Muffins

MISCELLANEOUS
+
Kodiak Chewy Granola Bars (S'mores + Chocolate Chip)
Lesser Evil Himalayan Sweetness Popcorn

Because breakfast is always the easiest for me to prep + stay on track, I picked up all of my go-tos which includes: eggs, cheese, diced ham + these The Better Bagels which I'm excited to try. I always try to get a somewhat leaner protein for breakfast, usually this Greenfield Diced Ham (it has no yucky additives) or turkey sausage. I also love bagels but normally they're high in calories and carbs. I've been wanting to try these The Better Bagels so I picked up the classic flavor. If they taste good, they just might become my new go-to!

They're low in sugar/carbs with 160 calories + 26g of protein per bagel. If I'm in the mood for something sweet, *occasionally* I'll also have one of these Veggies Made Great muffins. Compared to regular muffins, they're also pretty low calorie but still taste great. They make great desserts too!

The rotisserie chicken was for lunch this week so everything else is just snackies. The Lesser Evil popcorn is always a go-to. It's delicious, made with clean ingredients + you get a good portion size for lower calories. I also really like the Kodiak Granola Bars. I'm not big on regular protein bars but I like the taste of these + that they have a little extra protein than regular granola bars.

I always struggle with what to make for lunch that's healthy + quick to prep. Once I figure that out, I'll do another grocery haul with some other protein, fruits + veggies. If you have any recipe ideas, please let me know!

What are your grocery must-buys?

NEW YEAR, NEW SKIN | AUGUSTINUS BADER HAUL

I've decided that we're kicking 2024 off not only with a new year but with a new glow up. It's time to start being that b*tch, if you know what I mean. I'm excited to start doing a little re-vamp on both my beauty routines + wardrobe this year. Everything has just been feeling a little lackluster lately so I think a little refresh is only fitting. I've always been a big beauty gal, especially when it comes to skincare. I firmly believe that taking care of your skin is vital- most importantly for your overall health- but also to better enhance makeup and your overall look.

It's also probably no secret that I'm willing to get a little boujee when it comes to my skin. While you definitely don't have or need to buy expensive products, I have fun splurging a little bit here and there. I tend to look for products that are both effective + that have relatively "clean" ingredients. One brand (and product in particular) that I've had on my wish list for over a year now is the Augustinus Bader The Rich Cream. It's very highly rated but very expensive. I went down a rabbit hole on Tik-tok to essentially justify why I shouldn't buy it. I've yet to decide if any products are actually worth this price point, however the reviews didn't exactly do what I wanted. Of course there were some negatives, however the overall consensus I gathered is that it's nice, a little too expensive but no other creams compare or work exactly the same. We'll definitely see about that!

I decided to bite the bullet but if I'm going to splurge, I'm going to splurge smart. Augustinus Bader offers some various "value" sets and this one called the Skin Renewal System caught my eye. It includes three AB products-- 1 x 1oz. of The Rich Cream, 1 x 1oz. The Essence and 1 x 1oz. of The Cream Cleansing Gel. The entire set retails for $185 which is what just the 1oz. of The Rich Cream sells for by itself. I always love a good set + the idea of essentially getting the other two products "for free" seemed like a good way to test out the brand. I was also able to purchase the set during the December Sephora sale for 20% off which ended up dropping the price down to $148. Here's a little more info on each product:

AUGUSTINUS BADER THE SKIN RENEWAL SYSTEM

+The Rich Cream: Suitable for normal-to-dry skin, described as "intensely hydrating" to reduce the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles + hyperpigmentation.

+The Essence: Suitable normal, dry, oily + combination skin, described as a three-in-one mild chemical exfoliant, toner + essence for smooth, soft + hydrated skin.

+The Cream Cleansing Gel: Suitable for normal, dry, oily + combination skin, described as a daily cleanser to cleanse, purify + renew skin.

I've only tried everything out a few times so far so I don't have much to report yet. I will say that the overall design, look + feel of the packaging is nice (as it should be). I have seen some videos that show the polarity between how much product you're getting versus the size of the bottle, but that isn't really new to the beauty industry. That seems to be very common, especially when it comes to foundation + complexion products. Logically we all know that a 1oz. product isn't very much, however when packaged in larger bottles you feel as if you're purchasing more than you really are. I'd be willing to bet that most of us would think a little harder about our purchases if everything was packaged in a container perfectly sized for the actual amount of product. I also think while not ideal, it's understandable from a business perspective. Even more so on higher end, luxury products. Keeping my fingers crossed that a little bit goes a long way!

If you've had a chance to try out anything from Augustinus Bader, I'd love to know your thoughts. I'm excited to see how the products work and I'm also half wishing they do and don't live up to the hype!

MY 2024 NEW YEAR'S RESOLUTIONS

Happy New Year, friends! One of my favorite parts about the start of a new year are all of the endless possibilities for growth, change + new experiences. I'm very much a goal-oriented list maker so I love creating new resolutions for the year. I do always say there's no time like the present and often times waiting to start something can be counterintuitive, however sometimes we can all use a little extra push to get going. Although research according to Google says only 9% of people accomplish their yearly resolutions, I think creating resolutions is a great way to hone in on the areas of your life where you want to see change and to kickstart the year off with positive habits.

Every year my resolutions tend to fall along the lines of eating healthier, exercising more, de-cluttering and saving/investing more money. I'll link my actual 2023 resolutions here if you're interested, but I would be lying if I said that I've truly mastered those. They always seem to be a work in progress which makes sense if you really think about it. To have a healthier lifestyle, you have to maintain healthy habits. It's more of an ongoing lifestyle than a concrete goal that you can start and finish. While I plan to still work towards those and take a much needed detox from all of the holiday snacking I've been doing, this year I've created my resolutions around more specific goals + tasks I can check off.

I'm also taking a new approach and looking at my resolutions as a fun way to better my life. Sometimes I put too much weight and pressure on accomplishing everything all at once. I'm looking to approach 2024 with a more lighthearted approach- I want to have fun and enjoy the journey.

MY 2024 NEW YEAR'S RESOLUTIONS

+SWEAR LESS - When I think about the best, most ideal version of myself, she doesn't drop quite as many f bombs as the current day version. Sometimes I'll even reflect after using curse words that perhaps that sentence would have sounded better without one. Don't get me wrong, some situations just call for a good ole that's some bullsh*t. I also can appreciate the comedic edge that a good curse word can add, however sometimes I think it can diminish your polish a little too. I definitely want to work on being more a little more selective and mindful with my vocabulary this year.

+UNDIE DRAWER MAKEOVER - Alright, this is a goal I've had for awhile that I need to just bite the bullet + jump on. I'm at a point where I think a little underwear drawer clean out + makeover would greatly improve my life. My goal is to purge out all the old and re-purchase new, high quality undies that I love. I've also been really curious to try out some cleaner, organic cotton brands too.

+EMAIL DE-CLUTTER - I am one of those, you guys. I'm not proud of it and I'm fully aware of how much of an issue it is. Between my 4-5 different email accounts, I have an asinine amount of emails in my inboxes. Asinine as in over 60,000 emails. I know what you're thinking. I KNOW. It's absurd, really. I'm convinced there are two people- the ones with 60,000+ emails like me and the ones with less than ten. I want to be in the latter group, I really do. I have a game plan to make it happen too that involves a serial deleting spree + a massive amount of unsubscribing.

+CLEAN FOODS - Now that I've made it through the holidays + all of the yummy "junk" food, I want to switch back to cleaner foods. Side note on yummy snacks-- on NYE I tried this recipe for baked Boursin cheese + it was SO good. Definitely an indulgence but amazing appetizer that everyone loved! For me healthier eating is both watching what you eat + choosing higher quality, cleaner options when possible. That doesn't mean I won't still indulge here and there, just in moderation. During the holidays I pretty much just let everything slide but goal now is to eat leaner and cleaner. I'm looking to up my protein, minimize sugar + processed foods and to pick higher quality when I can (organic/grass-fed/less additives, etc.).

+SPEND MORE TIME GETTING READY - This one may sound silly but I would like to start spending a little extra time in the morning on getting ready for the day. I've been in a bad habit of just throwing on my clothes and rushing out the door most days. What I've noticed is that on the days I do spend a little extra time doing my hair or putting on a nicer outfit, I not only look better but I also feel better.

What are your New Year's resolutions?
