A HEALTHYISH GROCERY HAUL | 5.31.23

Healthy-foods-at-grocery-store-haul-The-Kristen-Diary-blog

Oat-almond-MALK-milk-suja-juice-shots-The-Kristen-Diary-blog

Welcome back to another "healthyish" grocery haul. The never-ending cycle of trying to eat easy, healthier meals at home continues. I've been MAJOR slacking lately so we're trying again today, lol. I have to have faith that one day I'll just finally figure it out + make it work. I'm sure part of it is my own mental block or excuses (we love a self-aware Queen, right??), but ya'll sometimes it's just easier and more convenient to eat out when you're busy. Nowadays, the cost gap between eating healthier at home vs. healthier out when you're cooking for one seems to be getting smaller too.

This week I ended up at Publix because they had a ton of stuff on BOGO that I like + I had a few coupons too. I try to be intentional with what I buy and like to purchase healthier options when I can. That can definitely add up fast so I'm all about a deal and any extra savings. Some items I picked up I don't plan to use this week, however I will try to stock up on things I like if there's a good deal. It also gives me an excuse to grab some guilty pleasure items too like the cookie dough + hotdogs! Now that it's almost summer, makes me want a hotdog real bad! ðŸ˜‰

Starting with breakfast- I try to keep things as simple as possible. Typically that is some variation of eggs + meat + the optional bread or yogurt. Normally I'll buy pre-cooked turkey sausage, however Publix doesn't sell it so I picked up the Greenfield Diced Ham to try this week. I love to put ham in omelettes or breakfast pockets and this one has cleaner ingredients than the one I normally buy. I also recently tried their bacon and it was really good! The Rustik Oven Sourdough is also my favorite bread too. I like the added benefits + taste.

Sometimes I'll also do yogurt + fruit in the morning, sometimes I like it for lunchtime. The Oikos Triple Zero Greek Yogurt 4-packs were on sale this week so I grabbed a box of Mixed Berry + some organic strawberries. I also stocked up on more MALK Milk because it was BOGO. I like both the Oat + Almond so I grabbed one of each.

For lunch, the plan is teriyaki chicken, garlic green beans + rice. It's your typical protein/grain/veggie combo which will hopefully be simple enough to throw together. I'm not much of a meal prepper at this point so timing is what usually makes it hard for me to commit to lunch at home. I do love these Publix Marinated Teriyaki Chicken Breasts, though. They're ready to go, full of flavor and great for lean protein. Shouldn't be too hard to throw it all together, right?

Everything else is random/for another day because it was too good of a deal to pass up! Anytime I can find the Buitoni pastas or SUJA shots on sale, I consider that a win. I also thought these Outshine Fruit Pops looked really yummy! I've never tried them but they looked like a good summer treat + a little bit healthier than my Ben & Jerry's!

WHAT I’VE BEEN WATCHING LATELY | MAY

2023-movies-ive-been-watching-lately-may-mission-impossible-the-Kristen-Diary-blog

PS-- can't wait for the next MI movie. It's coming out in July!

Happy Memorial Day, friends! I hope you spent today and the weekend relaxing with your loved ones. It poured down rain for most of the weekend here so the fam and I went to see Kandahar at the movies this afternoon. It's actually my third time going to the movies over the last month or so which is unusual. I normally only make it there every once in awhile so it's been nice to go more often.

I’ve also been meaning to update you all on what I’ve been watching lately so today seemed like a good day as any. JJ and I are *still* watching The Blacklist which I'm really into. I believe we’re either on season 3 or 4 right now and things have been heating up! So much is happening + it’s definitely keeping my attention. Pretty much everything else has been what I've seen at the movies. Here’s the list!

WHAT I'VE BEEN WATCHING:

+Air - This one was so good, ya'll. If you haven't heard of Air, it tells the story of Nike's partnership with Michael Jordan and the creation of the "Air Jordan" line. I'm sure we all know of both Nike and MJ, however if you're like me, you might not know much about the history behind the brand and partnership. I didn't know what to expect but came out loving the film-- it was significant, humorous, heartfelt and just a great snapshot of history. Whether you're a big sports fan or not, it's definitely worth a watch.

+Book Club: The Next Chapter - We took my mom to see Book Club: Next Chapter for Mother's Day and everyone loved it! It follows the original Book Club cast featuring four best friends whose connection over books intermingles and provides significance into their daily lives. The sequel brings the club on a girls trip to Italy for a bachelorette trip full of drama, fun, old flames + more. It was hilariously funny, sweet and endearing. A great movie with themes of friendship, love and growth.

+Kandahar - A very Gerald Butler film featuring... Gerald Butler! Lol, I love his movies. If you're also a fan and enjoy action films, this one was pretty good. His character is a CIA agent on an undercover mission in the Middle East. His cover gets blown, making him a direct target in the middle of a hostile situation. It leads to a a man-hunt where he must fight off his enemies while trying to reach a military base for extraction out of Afghanistan. While not my favorite of his, I enjoyed the storyline and stayed engaged.

I’ve also still been itching to get back into another new show but nothing has been inspiring me lately… one thing I was stoked about was Netflix adding the entire Harry Potter collection online until I learned it was for the UK platform only 😭 Definitely a heartbreaker, ya'll-- I was ready and waiting for a full re-watch marathon! Now it’s still preying on my mind and all I want to do is re-watch them all, lol.

I'm at the point now where I’m debating on signing up for HBO Max just to watch them, hehe. Does anyone have it? I’ve always loved the HBO original shows too so I’m definitely tempted!

What have you been watching lately? I need your recs!!

BEST MEMORIAL DAY SALES THIS WEEKEND

Happy Memorial Day weekend! First and foremost, I have to express how thankful I am for everyone who has made the ultimate sacrifice to serve and protect our country. While I will be the first to admit that holiday weekends are usually focused on fun, food and family- I think it's important to always reflect on the significance and meaning of why we're honoring or celebrating the day. It's easy to take our freedom for granted when we're wrapped up in our normal day to day lives, however the meaning and importance of every fallen hero, Veteran and current member who serves or has served our country is truly incredible. I'm grateful for you all and the freedom we are afforded everyday in the US-of-A!

Memorial Day weekend usually consists of hot weather, grilling out and lots of sales. Of course you can always find something on sale somewhere, however the Memorial Day weekend ones tend to be just a littttlleee bit better. Maybe not as good as Black Friday, but close. I also think there's something about a holiday weekend that just makes me want to spend more money... I can't figure out if it's the sale or if that's why there are sales? There's definitely some kind of consumeristic manipulation going on here, lol. We've all probably been brain-washed at some point! With summer quickly approaching, it's a great time to pick up a few things if you need to refresh your wardrobe or are going on vacay soon. ORGANIZATION PROJECTS ON MY TO-DO LIST

bathroom-organization-the-Kristen-Diary-blog

I feel like I’m nesting, y’all— sans baby, ofc. For some reason I’ve entered into a full blown period of wanting to purge, organize & clean everything. In an unconventional way, I think it’s another form of self improvement for me. I’ll be the first to admit that I struggle with keeping things clean. A lot of the times I feel like I’m living in chaos and I hate that. I’ve gotten to the point where I’m *slowly* working on getting my sh*t together, lol.

A few weeks ago I started with a little closet organization where I got rid of a few things and added these new shelves to create more storage for my shoes. Although I only did a few small changes, it made such a difference in my space. It also made me mentally feel so much better! Last week I moved onto the bathroom and after doing a thorough cleaning, I added this countertop shelf to hold my everyday products. Once again, major mental boost!

It feels so nice and calming to walk into a clean and organized space. I’ve heard Jordan Peterson talk a little about this and how your space is a reflection of your mental state. The man is definitely on to something there. I think for me it’s definitely true that my mental state dictates my level of motivation when it comes to cleaning/organization (or more so lack there of) so pushing myself to do it actually seems to combat against that. I also love a good project + something to give me a sense of accomplishment.

Now that I’m on this new spring cleaning gig, I have a whole list of areas at home that I want to tackle next. My plan is to do one thing at a time and slowly transform everything. Here's what I have on the list as of now:

+DRESSER DRAWERS - Right now my dresser drawers are pretty much full to the brim. The sad part is, most of the clothes in them aren't even ones I wear on the regular. Definitely playing by the 80/20 rule. My plan is to go through and clean out/donate/trash clothes that I no longer want and box up the ones I do want but don't wear. That sounds counterintuitive but I have a hard time letting go of those old high school and college tees. I know I really should just get rid of them too but sentimentally, they're hard to part with. I'd love to clean everything out so I can actually use my drawers for the things I wear + use now.

+DRAWER ORGANIZERS - Once I do that, I want to buy some drawer divider/organizers for all of my bras, socks + undies. I've seen some photos of these and they make such a difference in displaying and organizing smaller things like socks and panties.

+LINENS - Something I always seem to find hard to store are extra linens + blankets. I have a storage cabinet in my bathroom, however it doesn't hold as much as I have (shocker!). Because sheets and blankets are bulky, it can be hard to put them all away and so I always have extra throws randomly laying around. My plan here is to buy these really large storage totes and just store all of the extra blankets/sheets when I'm not using them. I think it'll come in handy when seasons change and I swap out different types of sheets (flannel, polar fleece, normal cotton, etc.).

+BATHROOM DRAWER - After cleaning and organizing most of the bathroom, it feels SO much better. One area I didn't touch that's next on the list is my vanity drawer. At this point it's looking like a junk drawer full of toothpaste, floss, hair brush, clips and random odds and ends. I'm going to clean it all out + add this drawer organizer. Another relatively easy fix that I know will make a big difference once it's done!

+MAKEUP/VANITY - This one is going to be a littttleeeee more complicated. Right now I have both my desk/"vanity" and a lingerie chest FULL of makeup. Some of it I use now, some of it is too old to use. We're talking from those original YouTube beauty guru days old. I know I wasn't the only one who went on a good 5-10 year run of hoarding makeup... blah. It's shameful that I still have a lot of the old stuff but nostalgically, it's always been hard to get rid of. I'm definitely not going to be wearing any of it now so it just needs to be done. I'm getting beyond that stage of where I feel like I need to collect a bunch of stuff and hold on to it... now I just want to buy things I want now and use them. If and when I use them up, I can replace them with something new. I haven't figured out much of a game plan here other than just filling up trash bags, lol.

+NEW BAG - Something about me is that I tend to use the same handbag for months or years at a time. Right now I've been using my oldie but goodie Marc Jacobs crossbody but I'm getting a little tired of her. I decided I'm going to switch over to my Marc Jacobs Tote Bag which I bought last year and surprise surprise, HAVE NEVER USED! Ya'll, it's shameful. I'm really working on buying and actually using things now. Naturally I needed to buy something else first so I also just bought this purse organizer + I'm excited to switch. I need to just (like everything else, lol) purge and organize my current bag into the new bag. I'm really excited to finally start using it though!

Alright, ya'll. I think that's pretty much it for now. I definitely have some other areas that need some TLC too but this is where we're starting. If I get too over-zealous, I know I'll end up accomplishing nothing. My goal is to try and get one or two projects done a week over the next few months. I think the general vibe is to clean-out, purge and add some type of organizer LOL. It seems silly but I actually think they make a huge difference + are super affordable. I'll keep you posted on IG stories + might even do some more blog posts as I go.

Do you keep things neat or messy?? LMK!

TOP 5 MOST POPULAR BLOG POSTS | MAY 2023

Oh MAY goodness, this month is going by so fast. I always share these "top blog posts" posts halfway through the month and today's happens to be on my sissy's birthday! It was nice to actually celebrate a birthday for once this year since both JJ and I were sick on ours.. womp womp. If you're new to these posts, they're a recap of the most popular blog posts here on TKD for the last month. I always say it's nice for me to see the type of content you all are liking but the icing on the cake is that you all seem to like these recaps too. Here are the recent faves!

1. SHE WAS A SKATER GIRL - The quarter-life crisis has been going strong! Last month I got a wild hair to start roller skating (lol, idk you guys) and while ya girl is rusty, it's been a lot of fun so far. This blog post is a little chat about said quarter-life crisis and of course, a haul. I bought these adorable skates + all the protective gear because we sadly aren't 12 anymore... lol. On a serious note, it's been really neat to pick up a hobby and try something new. I've also actually seen (felt?) myself getting a little better as time goes on which is really cool!

2. APRIL READING LIST - How sad is it that I didn't end up reading ANY of these books in April?? I'm still trying to get my reading groove back. I always have grand envisions every month and while I don't always read everything I want to, I do tend to come across some great books for my TBR list. I'm still really excited about all of these, especially Mary Jane and One Italian Summer for some beachy reads.

Read here: April Reading List

3. MOTHER'S DAY GIFT IDEAS - I hope everyone enjoyed the holiday weekend! Mother's Day is over now but you can still treat yourself (or your Mom!) to something relaxing any time... ;) I love all of the items from this year's Mother's Day Gift Ideas and have a few on my wish list. These PJs and candle are at the top!

Read here: Mother's Day Gift Ideas

4. I WALKED 10,000+ STEPS EVERY DAY FOR 3 WEEKS - Something I have done without fail for almost *three!!* years now is walk at least 10,000 steps every single day. There are countless benefits to walking and being active when it comes to your overall health, aging, etc. I also think there's something that mentally the magical "10,000" number does for me, however I've also heard that even 6,000-7,000 steps a day is effective/optimal for health.

There are some days where I b*tch and moan a little about still "needing to get my steps in," however most days it's just another daily habit. Like brushing my teeth. I think it's also something most us of can easily incorporate into our daily life. I wrote this blog post after my first three weeks of walking 10,000+ per day with my experience + tips to start walking more. If you're looking to be more active, walking more is always a good place to start!

walking-10000-steps-a-day-the-Kristen-Diary-blog

5. OURA RING UNBOXING - Lately I've been trying to work on getting more sleep. Ya'll know I'm a night owl through and through so going to bed early can definitely be a challenge for me. I constantly rave about it but the Oura ring has become an essential part of my day now. I wear it pretty much 24/7 unless I'm taking a shower, working out or letting it charge. If you've been curious about buying one or improving sleep, I would highly recommend. It provides you insight after each night's sleep on how you're sleeping, information on your sleep stages + areas to work on. Now if I could only stick to going to bed earlier, LOL.

What has been your favorite part of this month?

HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY WEEKEND

Mothers-day-weekend-end-of-the-week-thoughts-The-Kristen-Diary-blog

Happy Friday, friends! The blog post I had originally planned for today has been postponed due to technical difficulties (literally though— my computer basically died with that dreadful question mark folder.) The last time this happened to my old Mac I was in college and to say I had a nervous breakdown would be an understatement, lol. Several years later and no longer a college student reliant on a laptop, it’s not as catastrophic. I would say it’s a must have in terms of blogging, however luckily I can still commute from my phone 😉

I also have a new laptop I’ve been meaning to setup and while I’m a little ashamed it’s just been sitting in the box for several weeks, the universe is finally giving me a little kick in the butt. Sometimes we all need a little nudge in the right direction, no? I’ve been putting it off solely because of the Apple ID/five devices limit, lol. I’m pretty sure I’m either at or near five devices so I wasn’t sure whether to try and transfer my data from the old laptop or just start from scratch. It looks as if the latter has been decided, lol. Thankfully I don’t have anything too important on it that I need to keep!

Also another positive is that I get to chat with you today instead ☺️ It’s been a pretty long week so I’m ready to relax. It’s also a holiday weekend so Happy Mother’s Day to all of the mamas out there. I don’t know how ya’ll do it- it’s definitely not for the faint of heart. I’m very grateful to have an amazing Mom to celebrate on Sunday but regardless of your situation, my thoughts are with you. Holidays can be tricky when it comes to family, relationships or if you’re missing loved ones. Sending you all my love this weekend and hoping you’ll take some time to relax and be extra kind to yourself.

Other than working tomorrow and spending time with my family, I don’t have too much planned this weekend. On a silly note, one thing I’ve been dying to do is rewatch The Longest Ride. Somebody posted a clip from the movie on Tik-Tok and it’s been on my mind ever since. I used to LOVE watching it and haven’t seen it in several years. I can’t handle a lot of the sadness that comes with Nicholas Sparks but this one is a goodie. Such a cute, heartfelt story. I’ll definitely be setting up my new computer too!! 🤣

Have a great weekend!

DAMDAM BESTSELLERS BENTO BOX | UNBOXING

damdam-bento-box-skincare-unboxing-the-Kristen-Diary-blog
damdam-skincare-bento-box-mochi-mochi-cream-the-Kristen-Diary-blog

I always get excited about trying and sharing new skincare so a little unboxing seemed fitting. I've been getting a few dry patches on my face lately and figured it was time to buy a new moisturizer. While on the hunt, I came across the brand DAMDAM on Sephora. More specifically, their Mochi Mochi Luminous Cream. I almost just purchased the full-size of the cream until I saw this little Bento Box of bestsellers. You can never go wrong with Japanese skincare + the entire line is "clean" so I thought why not? I'm also always a sucker for packaging so obvi the little wooden box got me!

I hadn't heard of DAMDAM previously but the reviews on their products are insane. Pretty much everything gets a five-star so I have high hopes. Here's everything that comes in the kit

+ DAMDAM Nomad's Cream Purifying Cleanser (1.05oz/30g)
+ DAMDAM Silk Rice Cleansing Oil (1.01oz/30ml)
+ DAMDAM Paradisi Mist Hydrating Essence (1.01oz/30ml)
+ DAMDAM Mochi Mochi Luminous Cream (0.35oz/10g)

I love the assortment of products-- I use all of these "types" of skincare on a pretty regular basis. It's nice to have both a cleansing oil to break down + take off makeup, as well as a regular (in this case "purifying") cleanser to wash. The Mochi Mochi cream is described as a "potent yet weightless" lightweight formula which sounds nice for the spring & summer. I've always had pretty normal-to-dry skin so I tend to like a richer formula. Like most sprays, the Paradisi Mist is a two-in-one hydrating mist and setting spray.

I can't wait to try everything out + will definitely keep you posted on how they work!
