I feel like I’m nesting, y’all— sans baby, ofc. For some reason I’ve entered into a full blown period of wanting to purge, organize & clean everything. In an unconventional way, I think it’s another form of self improvement for me. I’ll be the first to admit that I struggle with keeping things clean. A lot of the times I feel like I’m living in chaos and I hate that. I’ve gotten to the point where I’m *slowly* working on getting my sh*t together, lol.
A few weeks ago I started with a little closet organization where I got rid of a few things and added these new shelves to create more storage for my shoes. Although I only did a few small changes, it made such a difference in my space. It also made me mentally feel so much better! Last week I moved onto the bathroom and after doing a thorough cleaning, I added this countertop shelf to hold my everyday products. Once again, major mental boost!
It feels so nice and calming to walk into a clean and organized space. I’ve heard Jordan Peterson talk a little about this and how your space is a reflection of your mental state. The man is definitely on to something there. I think for me it’s definitely true that my mental state dictates my level of motivation when it comes to cleaning/organization (or more so lack there of) so pushing myself to do it actually seems to combat against that. I also love a good project + something to give me a sense of accomplishment.
Now that I’m on this new spring cleaning gig, I have a whole list of areas at home that I want to tackle next. My plan is to do one thing at a time and slowly transform everything. Here's what I have on the list as of now:
+DRESSER DRAWERS - Right now my dresser drawers are pretty much full to the brim. The sad part is, most of the clothes in them aren't even ones I wear on the regular. Definitely playing by the 80/20 rule. My plan is to go through and clean out/donate/trash clothes that I no longer want and box up the ones I do want but don't wear. That sounds counterintuitive but I have a hard time letting go of those old high school and college tees. I know I really should just get rid of them too but sentimentally, they're hard to part with. I'd love to clean everything out so I can actually use my drawers for the things I wear + use now.

I'd love to clean everything out so I can actually use my drawers for the things I wear + use now.
+DRAWER ORGANIZERS - Once I do that, I want to buy some drawer divider/organizers for all of my bras, socks + undies. I've seen some photos of these and they make such a difference in displaying and organizing smaller things like socks and panties.
+LINENS - Something I always seem to find hard to store are extra linens + blankets. I have a storage cabinet in my bathroom, however it doesn't hold as much as I have (shocker!). Because sheets and blankets are bulky, it can be hard to put them all away and so I always have extra throws randomly laying around. My plan here is to buy these really large storage totes and just store all of the extra blankets/sheets when I'm not using them. I think it'll come in handy when seasons change and I swap out different types of sheets (flannel, polar fleece, normal cotton, etc.).
+BATHROOM DRAWER - After cleaning and organizing most of the bathroom, it feels SO much better. One area I didn't touch that's next on the list is my vanity drawer. At this point it's looking like a junk drawer full of toothpaste, floss, hair brush, clips and random odds and ends. I'm going to clean it all out + add this drawer organizer. Another relatively easy fix that I know will make a big difference once it's done!
+MAKEUP/VANITY - This one is going to be a littttleeeee more complicated. Right now I have both my desk/"vanity" and a lingerie chest FULL of makeup. Some of it I use now, some of it is too old to use. We're talking from those original YouTube beauty guru days old. I know I wasn't the only one who went on a good 5-10 year run of hoarding makeup... blah. It's shameful that I still have a lot of the old stuff but nostalgically, it's always been hard to get rid of. I'm definitely not going to be wearing any of it now so it just needs to be done. I'm getting beyond that stage of where I feel like I need to collect a bunch of stuff and hold on to it... now I just want to buy things I want now and use them. If and when I use them up, I can replace them with something new. I haven't figured out much of a game plan here other than just filling up trash bags, lol.
+NEW BAG - Something about me is that I tend to use the same handbag for months or years at a time. Right now I've been using my oldie but goodie Marc Jacobs crossbody but I'm getting a little tired of her. I decided I'm going to switch over to my Marc Jacobs Tote Bag which I bought last year and surprise surprise, HAVE NEVER USED! Ya'll, it's shameful. I'm really working on buying and actually using things now. Naturally I needed to buy something else first so I also just bought this purse organizer + I'm excited to switch. I need to just (like everything else, lol) purge and organize my current bag into the new bag. I'm really excited to finally start using it though!
Alright, ya'll. I think that's pretty much it for now. I definitely have some other areas that need some TLC too but this is where we're starting. If I get too over-zealous, I know I'll end up accomplishing nothing. My goal is to try and get one or two projects done a week over the next few months. I think the general vibe is to clean-out, purge and add some type of organizer LOL. It seems silly but I actually think they make a huge difference + are super affordable. I'll keep you posted on IG stories + might even do some more blog posts as I go.
