END OF THE WEEK THOUGHTS | 5.30.25

Happy Weekend and end of May, friends! We made it through the holiday week and on to what will hopefully be a relaxing weekend. Sometimes disrupting the status quo makes these holiday weeks a little wonky. This time (at least for me), it was all smooth sailing and the week flew right on by. I'm excited that we're also now on the brink of summer, however you would never guess with this crazy Tennessee weather. It's definitely giving April showers, lol. Rain, rain, and more raiiinnnn. One positive is that we've had cooler temps which I love. My only real issue with summer is she's just too d*mn hot and sticky. Having this easy, breezy weather all-year-round would be a dream.

In other unrelated news, it's been a hot minute since I've updated you on what I've been reading/watching. I resumed my Harry Potter re-read/re-watch marathon I started around this time last year. I've been re-reading every book and then watching the movie pair right after. I've had an absolute blast! I couldn't tell you how many times I've reread or watched the books/movies, however I've never done it like this before. I've also been taking my time with it and just enjoying everything as I go. I took a little break during the holiday but finally jumped back in and finished Order of the Phoenix last month. Now I'm just a few chapters away from finishing Half-Blood Prince. I'm hoping to knock the rest of it out tonight so I can watch the movie this weekend.

I'm also now at a point where the end doom is setting in. I keep inching closer and closer to finishing the series which has always been bittersweet. It has to have something to do with growing up with the story as it was still coming out. It was and is such a special moment in time for me that despite knowing how it all wraps up, I always feel just a tinge of loss. I also think some of that has to do with the darker elements and loss of the last few books, too.

Alongside of my Harry Potter journey, I've also been reading What Every Body Is Saying by Joe Navarro. This book is about body language and non-verbal communication. I've always found this topic to be super interesting and so far, I'm really enjoying the book. Joe Navarro is an ex-FBI agent who specialized in reading people during interviews/interrogations. It's very cool to learn about how we all have pretty universal, primal body language habits as well as individualist cues.

I also have Memorial Day week to blame for disrupting my fitness plan, haha. I've had one too many key lime bars this week so here's to a few last hurrahs over the weekend and then it's back to business on Monday!

Wishing you a wonderful weekend!! -xx

HAPPY MEMORIAL DAY

Happy Memorial Day, friends! I hope you’ve had a relaxing, fun weekend with some time off from work. Today we honor the fallen heroes of our amazing country and the ultimate sacrifices they made to secure and provide the freedoms we are fortunate enough to have everyday.

While we all jump at the opportunity to have fun on holidays and long weekends, spend time with loved ones and indulge in yummy food, I always try to take a little time to reflect on the meaning of why and what we are celebrating.

Unfortunately the world and country we live in today is full of adversity and division. It’s no secret that there is a lot of polarity, perhaps more than ever before. Regardless of politics and current events, our ability to have and express our viewpoints and opinions- both in agreement or differing-wouldn’t be possible without the freedoms we have to do so. I’m thankful to all of the brave men and women who have made this possible. It’s all too easy to look at what and who is wrong in our world but today, I think it’s important to remember what is right. I fully believe we can always find things to be grateful for, especially when they have been given to us at such a remarkable cost and sacrifice from these fallen heroes. We remember them a little more on this Memorial Day and all that was endured for this freedom. My gratitude also goes out to their respective families and loved ones.

On a silly note, it’s always nice having a few days off to relax and recharge! The food is definitely always the top highlight of a holiday weekend for me. Ya’ll know I had to kick off the start of summer with my favorite key lime bar recipe- I love this one from Tastes Better from Scratch. They are super tangy and refreshing- also so easy and delish if you love key lime pie. We also made BBQ sliders for dinner which fits all the fun holiday vibes and to really top things off, I’m finishing my weekend with National Treasure, LOL. All the Americana vibes today- Happy Memorial Day!

Until next time, xx!

WHAT I DO WHEN I FEEL UNMOTIVATED OR STUCK

What a perfect time it is to chat about feeling stuck and unmotivated. Just today, I found myself stuck in a rut and uninspired with zero clue on what to put up for today's blog post. This is definitely a cycle I think most of us have and do experience somewhat regularly. Whether it's with work, hobbies or just the everyday- life can get trivial. In a lot of ways, the mundane is good. Routine and structure are essential for most of us. It keeps us all in line and more adept at living I guess, haha. That makes total sense though- routine gives a sense of purpose to your everyday life and a feeling of familiarity. The known is comfortable which is why I think people in general tend to be creatures of habit. We like what we like and if it's not broke, don't fix it!

I very much fit into all of those boxes, however I also often times find myself feeling bored or uninspired with the familiarity. In the case of writing for my blog, I ping pong around the topics of beauty, style, health/wellness, food + miscellaneous lifestyle. It's a pretty broad range which means for the most part, I can usually come up with something to share on my Monday/Wednesday/Friday posting schedule. I also love and "live" all of the categories that I talk about on a daily basis- whether it's trying a new skincare product, switching up my fitness routine or reading a new book- and that makes it easy to incorporate into content. That being said, it sometimes still becomes monotonous. Perhaps it's the style of posts I share or that I do too much of the same thing but there are days when I just have no clue what to post about or I hate every idea I come up with.

While I still find myself in the same boat from time to time, I have found some steps that help to pull me out of a rut and reignite some motivation. Here are a few things that work for me:

+DO IT ANYWAYS - Sometimes you just have to walk through the fire to get out. Depending on the situation, taking action on what you’re stuck on is what can help get you out of it. I find this applies to making decisions or just everyday responsibilities you might be putting off. In the case of hard decisions, ripping the band aid off and just making a choice alleviates a lot of anxiety and indecision that makes you feel stuck. It doesn’t always feel good and is easier said than done, but it works. When it comes to feeling unmotivated and not wanting to do something that is for your benefit, sometimes you just need to do it anyway. I get into ruts here and there when it comes to taking workout classes where I will skip a week or two. The longer I go without going, the more unmotivated I become. When I finally force myself to go back, I typically snap right out of the rut and can jump back into a consistent schedule. Sometimes it's as easy as creating new momentum by taking action.

+GIVE YOURSELF A BREAK - On the flip side, sometimes you actually need to just pause and give yourself a break. How's that for some contradictory advice? This again depends on the scenario you're facing but there are times when you need to just give yourself some grace. I tend to take this route when it comes to the more mentally or emotionally draining parts of life. In these cases, I allow myself to take a break and be okay with feeling stuck and unmotivated. Once upon a time, I took the approach that I just had to keep going and going and going with everything in life. What I learned was that for some things, that ends up being more harmful. I've shared this before but now I make room and allow for periods of rest when I need them. If you allow yourself to take time to recharge, it's a lot easier to regain motivation once you're in a new headspace.

+GET ACTIVE - Remember "exercise gives you endorphins- endorphins make you happy!" ;) Sometimes it's as easy as just taking a walk. Walking or doing some type of movement is scientifically proven to help lower stress levels and boost your mood. I know my overall mood and how I'm feeling definitely correlates at times to my level of motivation and ability to deal with feeling "stuck." Nature and the outdoors can also clear your head and give room for creativity to flow!

+PRACTICE GRATITUDE - Feeling stuck for me is usually tied to wanting something that I don't currently have or that feels out of reach. I think we feel stuck in life because our expectation of where we should be isn't aligned with the reality of where we're actually at. In today's world of social media, comparison and consumerism- it's all too easy to fall into. I'm guilty of this one more than I'd care to admit but when you focus on the things you do have, it helps to put things into perspective. I've always like the "I get to do X" versus "I have to do X" outlook.

I also find moments of empathy to really drive this home. Just this week, there has been a lot of talk on TikTok in regards to a pool drowning incident of a little three year old boy. The horror is unfathomable- my heart absolutely goes out to this family and anyone who has ever known or been touched personally by anything of this nature. I've felt absolutely devastated and while I don't have my own children, I can only imagine the sense of fear that must come with being a parent. I didn't plan to take this post in this direction but what a reminder to count our blessings and be grateful for the good in our lives. It scares me how quickly something like this can absolutely change your life and how both silly and lucky we are to be in a position to sweat the small things. It really puts things into perspective and THAT motivates the hell out of me.

I think that's a good place to end things- wishing you a great weekend! xx.

HEALTHY SNACKS HAUL

Friday night's allllllright for a little healthy snacks haul, ya'll. One of the hardest parts of being in a calorie deficit for me is often times snacking. Snacks are sneaky in that a little bit does not usually go a long way. When it comes to nutrition + macros, most of them time even healthier options like nuts and *some* fruits can be calorically dense which doesn't always work within my deficit parameters. In my experience, they're one of the easiest ways to "blow" your entire day. Despite all that, ya girl gets munchie so snacks are still a must!

It was time to refresh my drawer so here's a little snackie haul for ya. Starting off with some repeat offenders I love: Chomps Beef Sticks + the Purely Elizabeth Cookie Granola. Chomps are great- I love the beef and turkey flavors! I like the minis in particular because they're only 40-50 calories each with 4-5grams of protein. I didn't get them this time but I also love these Archer Provisions Beef Sticks too!

When it comes to Ms. Elizabeth, I have to moderate. Granola is definitely a health halo but hers is just so d*mn good (and made with good ingredients!), I always have a bag on hand for yogurt + just to munch on. I usually buy the "regular" Purely Elizabeth granola for yogurt- all of the flavors are delicious but I bring home the original Ancient Grain and the Vanilla Chocolate Chip the most. The cookie granola is a whole other problem, ya'll. Definitely crack in a bag. The chocolate chip is out of this world good- hard to believe since it's made with healthier ingredients and has less sugar than most other regular granolas.

Okay newer to me are protein bars. I've never been a big fan of them in the past- I feel like most of them just taste gross and aren't really healthy? Last year I bought a box of Barebells which I think are generally considered "the best" by most people? I never ended up trying them until a few weeks ago when I grabbed a few singles from Publix but they are goooooood, ya'll. The texture isn't too dense and they actually taste good unlike a lot I tried before. They also pack a big punch with 20g of protein for 200 calories. So far I've tried the Salty Peanut, Chocolate Dough and Cookies & Cream. The latter two are definitely my faves! I also saw some good reviews for the Pure Protein bars so I grabbed this box of Chocolate Peanut Butter to try. I'll report back on those later!

Last but not least are these amazingly delicious Drizzilicious Rice Cakes! I don't know where I saw it (prob TikkyTok) but a few weeks ago, I read a comment somewhere that said "the drizzilicious cinnamon roll rice cakes have me in a chokehold" and I just happened to find them at Publix this week. I don't mind a rice cake if it's good, ya know? I grabbed a bag of the Cinnamon Swirl and the S'mores and I'm for sure a fan of the cinni. They have great flavor and are the perfect mini size. The S'mores is ok- could use more flavor and chocolate IMO. They're all only 5 calories each though which is a major win! I have a habit of wanting to grab a bite or two of something sweet here and there. Pre-deficit, it was Reese's Pieces eggs from Easter. Just something small that's like a hit of sugar, ya know?? The addiction thooooo, ya'll. I've had to steer clear of those so I wanted something to replace that and these are the perfect thing. They're the perfect size where just 3-4 is satisfying and they aren't crazy in calories. I need to try the other flavors now!

What are your go-to healthy snacks?
