SYNOPSIS
Are you tired of feeling fu*ked up? If you are, Gary John Bishop has the answer. In this straightforward handbook, he gives you the tools and advice you need to demolish the slag weighing you down and become the truly unfu*ked version of yourself. ''Wake up to the miracle you are,'' he directs. ''Here's what you've forgotten: You're a fu*king miracle of being.'' It isn't other people that are standing in your way, it isn't even your circumstances that are blocking your ability to thrive, it's yourself and the negative self-talk you keep telling yourself.
In Unfu*k Yourself, Bishop leads you through a series of seven assertions:
I am willing.
I am wired to win.
I got this.
I embrace the uncertainty.
I am not my thoughts; I am what I do.
I am relentless.
I expect nothing and accept everything.
Lead the life you were meant to have—Unfu*k Yourself.

After reading several "self-help" books, I've noticed that a lot of them have similar ideas and concepts. I really like that Unfu*k Yourself has a different approach. The book is divided up into seven "assertions" that are easy steps to follow. The difference this book has is a candid attitude that calls you out on your sh*t.
I'll give you guys a lil' example from the "I am wired to win" chapter. Normally you'd expect to be told all of the ways you're "equipped" and "capable of success" and "winning." ...You could be wrong. (Name it if you know it.) Instead, the author says that as humans we're all wired to win and therefore are already winning at the life we have now. You're winning in the present because you have exactly what you accept. This feels a little uncomfortable because we can't blame anyone or anything else. WE are to blame.
The more I actually think about this, the more I vibe with it. If you're familiar with psychology, it reminds me of what is called an internal vs external locus of control. You can either believe in an "internal" locus of control (basically that everything happens because of you) or an external (everything happens to you). I'm feeling VERY philosophical right now you guys.
All kidding aside, I think this idea and book is useful because it gives us the power and ability to create whatever type of life we want. Through accountability we can accept and adjust. We may not always cause our environment or what happens to us but we are in control of how we respond and whether we move forward.

"I am not my thoughts, I am what I do" and many other concepts in the book reiterate personal responsibility to help "Unfu*k" you from mental road blocks in order to move forward. It has a practical way of challenging you but still offers inspiration and encouragement. When you face challenges and road blocks it can be difficult to keep moving. Becoming relentless and accepting uncertainty are essential tools that the book touches on to keep you mentally strong. I was left feeling confident in my ability to accomplish my goals with the right actions. By claiming ownership of our thoughts and actions means we can create change. A step-by-step, honest means to progress!
Sometimes I think we all get stuck in ruts and are faced with mental roadblocks and adversities. If you're looking for a bit of tough love and encouragement to get moving, I'd highly recommend picking up a copy of Unfu*k Yourself. We're still only a third of the way through 2019 so there's still some time to kick your bootay in gear! What have you all been reading?
